Job Overview

The Network Security Architect will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of MTN’s network security architecture across the Eastern Cape region. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive network security architecture blueprint aligned with MTN’s strategic objectives.
  • Conduct risk assessments, threat modeling, and vulnerability analyses for core network components.
  • Design and implement security controls, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and zero‑trust frameworks.
  • Collaborate with network engineers, operations, and compliance teams to integrate security solutions without impacting service quality.
  • Lead incident response planning, forensic investigations, and post‑incident reviews to continuously improve defenses.
  • Stay abreast of emerging cyber‑threats, industry standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST), and regulatory requirements such as POPIA.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior security analysts and engineers.
  • Prepare detailed security architecture documentation, reports, and executive briefings.

Required Skills

  • Deep expertise in network security protocols, encryption, VPN technologies, and secure routing.
  • Hands‑on experience with security platforms such as Palo Alto Networks, Cisco ASA, Fortinet, and SIEM solutions.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell) for automation of security tasks.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a proactive security mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey complex security concepts to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Relevant certifications (CISSP, CCNP Security, CEH, or equivalent) are highly desirable.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or specialized certifications will be considered an advantage.

Experience
