Job Overview

This role focuses on designing, implementing, and auditing digital educational tools to ensure compliance with accessibility guidelines. The ideal candidate will collaborate with developers, instructional designers, and educators to create inclusive learning environments. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct accessibility audits of digital learning platforms, LMS systems, and educational apps
  • Develop and implement accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, Section 508) for educational content
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate accessibility features into product development
  • Provide training and resources to educators on inclusive design practices
  • Monitor emerging accessibility technologies and advocate for their adoption
  • Ensure compliance with South African Department of Basic Education accessibility mandates

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in digital accessibility consulting or related field
  • Expertise in WCAG 2.1, ARIA, and assistive technology compatibility
  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for accessibility testing
  • Proficiency in using screen readers (JAWS, NVDA) and other assistive tools
  • li>Experience with educational technology platforms (Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard)

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Education, or related field
  • Preferred certifications: Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS)

Experience

  • 3-5 years in digital accessibility, educational technology, or instructional design
  • Experience working in South African education sector preferred

Salary

42,000 – 55,000 SSP per annum, depending on experience
