Job Overview
The Construction Project Manager will lead the planning, execution and delivery of multi-million Rand construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards. This role reports to the Director of Project Management and works closely with design engineers, subcontractors, clients and regulatory authorities. The successful candidate will drive project performance, manage risk, and foster strong stakeholder relationships while upholding Aveng’s safety and sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules and budgets for large‑scale construction initiatives.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, procurement, and on‑site supervisors.
- Monitor progress against milestones, identify variances and implement corrective actions.
- Manage contracts, negotiate change orders and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
- Lead risk assessment workshops and maintain a robust risk register throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure all health, safety and environmental regulations are strictly adhered to on site.
- Prepare and present regular status reports to senior management and clients.
- Facilitate effective communication among stakeholders to resolve issues promptly.
- Oversee quality control processes and conduct site inspections to guarantee workmanship standards.
- Mentor junior project staff and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Required Skills
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Advanced knowledge of construction methodologies, contracts and procurement processes.
- Proficiency in project management software such as Primavera P6 or MS Project.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Effective communication and negotiation abilities.
- Solid understanding of South African building codes, regulations and industry standards.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Commitment to safety, sustainability and ethical business practices.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or CCMP (Certified Construction Manager) are highly regarded.
Experience
Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in managing complex construction projects, with a proven track record of delivering on time and within budget. Experience in the South African construction market and familiarity with local regulatory frameworks are essential.
Salary
The remuneration package ranges from R600,000 to R900,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, pension contributions and comprehensive medical cover.
