Job Overview

The Mining Safety Compliance Officer will lead the development, implementation and monitoring of safety policies and procedures across Sibanye‑Stillwater’s Kimberley operations. Reporting to the HSE Manager, the officer will ensure compliance with national mining regulations, international best practices and internal safety standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review and update safety policies, procedures and risk assessments specific to underground and surface mining activities.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections and incident investigations to ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act and other regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with operations managers, engineers and contractors to embed safety controls into daily work practices.
  • Prepare and present safety performance reports, dashboards and compliance metrics to senior leadership.
  • Lead safety training sessions, toolbox talks and emergency response drills for all personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, near‑misses, corrective actions and regulatory filings.
  • Advise on the selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety technologies.
  • Support the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing lost‑time injuries and occupational illnesses.

Required Skills

  • In‑depth knowledge of South African mining safety legislation and international standards such as ISO 45001.
  • Strong analytical abilities to interpret audit findings and develop corrective action plans.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in safety management software and data reporting tools.
  • Ability to lead training programmes and facilitate behavioural change.
  • Problem‑solving mindset with a proactive approach to risk mitigation.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Mining Engineering, Environmental Science or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH Managing Safely or a South African HSE certification are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage.

Experience

Candidates must have a minimum of five years’ experience in safety compliance within the mining sector, preferably in both underground and open‑pit environments. Demonstrated experience in conducting safety audits, incident investigations and leading HSE teams is essential.

Salary

The role offers a competitive salary range of SSP 350,000 to SSP 550,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and long‑term incentive schemes are also part of the remuneration package.
