Job Overview
The Risk Analytics Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of advanced risk analytics models that support credit, market, and operational risk decisions. Reporting to the Head of Risk Management, the incumbent will work closely with cross‑functional teams, including Credit, Treasury, Compliance, and Technology, to translate complex data into actionable insights. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping the bank’s risk culture, ensuring that analytical outputs align with regulatory expectations and business objectives. The role offers a unique opportunity to influence strategic direction, mentor junior analysts, and champion innovative analytical techniques within a globally recognized financial institution.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and validate quantitative risk models for credit, market, and operational risk portfolios.
- Collaborate with data engineering teams to acquire, cleanse, and integrate large datasets from internal and external sources.
- Produce risk dashboards and reports for senior management, regulators, and audit committees.
- Lead scenario analysis, stress testing, and back‑testing activities to assess model performance.
- Provide expert guidance on model governance, documentation, and validation processes.
- Mentor and supervise a team of risk analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and analytical excellence.
- Stay abreast of emerging regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and technological advancements in risk analytics.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as Python, R, or SAS.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and data manipulation techniques.
- Experience with machine learning algorithms and their application to risk modeling.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to present complex findings to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and lead cross‑functional projects under tight deadlines.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as FRM, PRM, or CFA are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants must have 5‑8 years of relevant experience in risk analytics, financial modeling, or quantitative analysis within the banking or financial services sector. Prior exposure to regulatory frameworks such as Basel III, IFRS 9, or local South African risk guidelines is essential.
Salary
