Job Description (Key Duties & Responsibilities)
Equipment Inspection & Diagnostics
The Diesel Mechanic will:
- Inspect and diagnose mechanical faults on diesel-powered vehicles and heavy mining equipment
- Troubleshoot issues affecting:
- Engines
- Transmissions
- Braking systems
- Hydraulic and mechanical components
- Conduct root-cause analysis to improve equipment reliability and reduce operational downtime
Maintenance & Mechanical Repairs
- Perform preventative, planned, and breakdown maintenance on mining vehicles and diesel machinery
- Repair and service:
- Diesel engines
- Gearboxes and transmission systems
- Braking systems
- Mechanical components and assemblies
- Ensure equipment remains operational and compliant with mining standards
Safety & Quality Assurance
- Conduct quality inspections and performance checks after repairs
- Ensure maintenance work complies with occupational health and safety standards
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workshop environment
Documentation & Technical Reporting
- Complete accurate maintenance records and service reports
- Update job cards and technical documentation using maintenance systems
- Record repairs, inspections, spare parts usage, and maintenance schedules
Emergency & Breakdown Support
- Provide standby support and emergency breakdown assistance when required
- Respond to urgent maintenance requests to minimize operational interruptions

Education Requirements

Essential Qualifications
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate
- Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate

Experience Requirements
