Job Overview
The Construction Project Controls Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring that large‑scale construction projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Reporting to the Senior Project Controls Manager, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and analysing project schedules, cost forecasts, and performance metrics. You will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to identify risks, implement mitigation strategies, and provide actionable insights that drive decision‑making. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 or MS Project, ensuring alignment with contractual milestones.
- Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts, monitoring variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Analyse earned value data to assess project performance and forecast future trends.
- Identify, assess, and report project risks and opportunities, collaborating with stakeholders to implement mitigation plans.
- Generate regular progress reports, dashboards, and presentations for senior management and clients.
- Coordinate with procurement and contracts teams to track change orders and their financial impact.
- Support the preparation of claims and dispute resolution documentation when required.
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance, health and safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in project scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project) and cost control tools.
- Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with a focus on earned value management.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Knowledge of South African construction codes, standards, and contractual frameworks.
- Team‑oriented mindset with proven collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as PMP, PMI‑ACP, or a recognized Project Controls qualification are advantageous.
Experience
Applicants should have 5‑7 years of experience in project controls within the construction, infrastructure, or engineering sectors. Prior exposure to large‑scale public works or industrial projects is highly valued.
Salary
