Job Overview

RPO Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a well-established multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy seeking an experienced and technically skilled Project Planner to join its Project Controls Team in Johannesburg.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in project planning, scheduling, progress monitoring, risk analysis, and project controls across multi-disciplinary engineering and construction projects. The role requires strong technical expertise, planning proficiency, and deep understanding of construction methodologies and contract management.

Job Purpose

The Project Planner will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing project schedules to support successful delivery of engineering and construction projects while ensuring alignment with timelines, budgets, and project objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities (Job Description)

The Project Planner will be responsible for:

Project Planning & Scheduling

  • Developing and maintaining detailed project schedules for engineering and construction activities.
  • Creating baseline schedules and monitoring project performance against milestones.
  • Supporting project execution through effective planning and scheduling strategies.
  • Ensuring project deliverables align with timelines and operational objectives.

Primavera P6 Planning & Controls

  • Using Primavera Project Planner P6 to:
    • Develop project schedules
    • Track project progress
    • Monitor performance indicators
    • Analyze delays and schedule risks
  • Updating project schedules and generating accurate planning reports.

Risk Management & Project Controls

  • Identifying scheduling risks, delays, and bottlenecks affecting project delivery.
  • Supporting project risk management strategies and mitigation planning.
  • Assisting project teams in minimizing operational and scheduling risks.

Contract & Tender Knowledge

  • Applying understanding of forms of contract including:
    • NEC Contracts
    • FIDIC Contracts
  • Supporting estimating, tendering, and commercial planning processes.
  • Reviewing technical and scheduling inputs for project bids and proposals.

Technical Coordination

Required Qualifications and Education

Applicants should possess:

Education Requirements

  • A Tertiary Qualification (Degree, Diploma, or Equivalent) in:
    • Engineering
    • Construction Management
    • Project Management
    • Quantity Surveying
    • Or another relevant technical discipline

Experience Requirements

  • Knowledge of:
